Good points Alun; the machine I use for my portable trailer is a San Marino with a gas kit, and I use a deep cycle 12VDC battery powering an 800W inverter to run the grinder/pump/electronics. A 60W photovoltaic panel helps to keep the battery 'tickled up' if needed. The SM still has a 1.8kW electric element that acts as a 'boost recovery' when mains is available. Re the trip, that's still in the 'considering' phase Alun; good idea re including Indo-Papua - should I consider anything/anywhere else?

Indeed it will work. Basically the Gas kits mean the lever can run without electricity. It requires the use of a foot pump to fill the boiler- thats about it. I think LaPavoni should have units with gas kits in NZ. We use a machine here setup and linked into the main grid...however we use gas from time to time when the famous Jakarta blackouts setin. The grinder could be an issue but I reckon there are inventive ways around using electricity per-see.

I have friends who have gas-fired lever machines that require no external power apart from that required to run a grinder. Would that possibly fit the bill?

Thanks Alun, The machine I am after must be able to run totaly of the grid, as it will be going into a mobile kitchen our scout group has built, hot plates and oven all on gas also hot and cold water, not only will it be great for fundraisers, but also those early mornings at camp will be much more pleasent with a great coffee, and what better way to attract parentd to help out...... and make a bit of pocket money while we are at Jamboree !!!!

Hi Alun; would be good to meet up with you in person when you're in Welly; I know there's something I would like from Indo', but what exactly I'm not sure - maybe something from Bandung that might reflect the time in which my Dad lived there (1921-1946)?? Any thoughts?
