Barista Exchange

the world's premiere online community for the specialty coffee industry

Come out on Thursday, November 13th for DC's second ever TNT. For those who weren't at the first throwdown and/or are unfamiliar with the TNT concept, let me elucidate: "Thursday Night Throwdown's goal is to bring together and create coffee community, locally and globally, through the format of friendly competition. No matter who you work for, whether you're a home barista, have a machine in your office, or have been a coffee professional for 10 years, you're welcome at TNT."

So here's the deal: five dollar buy-in, one pour, winner take all. There will be additional, non-monetary prizes for 1st-3rd place finishers.

Please come support DC's coffee community even if you don't want throwdown. Who doesn't want to hang out with a bunch of coffee people, nosh and watch us geek out over latte art? There will also be awesome Tshirts available, with all proceeds going to make each subsequent TNT cooler than the last.

Honestly, we're still working on our cost analysis, certainly not more than 15 bucks, hopefully cheaper, ideally they'll get cheaper each TNT as more people rock our dope ts. We plan on having a variety of sizes, and we'll try to have both genders, but it's American Apparel, so really, what's the difference? If you for sure will be buying a shirt in a specific size, post it here and we'll make sure to order some in your desired sizes/can print them in advance.

what i've found is that the problem isn't traditional drip brewing - it's the airpots. anything sitting for more than half an hour gets funky tasting. if i brew a 2.2 litre airpot of our colombian at 60g/l and taste it immediately, it's really nice.…
