Barista Exchange

the world's premiere online community for the specialty coffee industry

Hi everyone,

I wanted to give a shout out to the member points leaders and expose anyone who is not aware of this feature to it. Basically members can earn points for activity on the site. The highest points scoring option is inviting new members, so feel free to invite your whole address book if you'd like.

Click here to see the leaderboard

Here is more info on the Points System:

Add an event = 25

There are 5 things that make up this feature.

1.) Activity - How active a member is.
2.) Rank - The name of the level reached.
3.) Points - Points that each activity is awarded.
4.) Awards - The graphic icon that shows rank.
5.) The Leaderboard - This is where you can view the Top Rankings for this site

Your POINTS will only update when you View your page!

You can climb up through the Ranks by doing the things you do everyday on www.baristaexchange.com.

NOTE: You need to Click the cup icon on your page to View the Rankings Leaderboard. Be aware that other's points will only show when they view the Leaderboard too!

As you gain a higher rank and are given more points - the Award icon on your page will change to reflect your rising Rank.

Click on the points to view the Activity of the member who's page you are visiting. You can check up on any members Activity at any time to see how they are doing.

Please NOTE - If a Site Administrator catches you abusing this system by posting SPAM or frivolous comments to gain points - they will delete those and your points will be automatically deducted. Comments posted to your own comment-wall will not be recognized by the system.

I must confess, this had the opposite of the intended effect on me. Once I saw I was in the top 20, I figured I was spending too much time online!

Flavored drip coffee should be exterminated from the face of the planet. Maybe that should be the core cause of the point system. Each point you get causes one ounce of crap (Flavored Coffee)to be poured down a drain somewhere in the Midwestern United States. I would definitely participate in that point system Stephen. My opinion is so right, that the original post was on my birthday. Put that in your portafilter and pull it!

I guess it's kind of like flavored drip - some people think they like it...lol.
It's just not for me, but I am good at ignoring things so no harm done.

Scott's comment proves how well people like it, apparently, as I am thinking "Who cares if it IS rigged?" =]

Yes, it can be done. I would talk to the guys at Sunergos in Louisville. They did it on a shoe string like that. But they did most all the work their selves, bought used equipment, and worked 100 plus hours a week and didn't pay themselves. Their wi…

Try cinnamon and honey in a latte. We called it a miele. I've never used the syrup, I've always used fresh ground. But that was really good.

As a roaster, I have a question. Who can afford to sell beans at $4 a pound? That's my purchase price for green on many I sell. We have a tiered system. Based on the price of the bean its self and how much people order. So, for instance, you only or…

Jared, admittedly I was looking for replies geared more towards the practice of buying for the future as opposed to conserving operations funding by starting with lower-end gear, but your recommendation looks incredible! Thank you very much! Looks…

lemme throw you a couple observations from my first month of being open: 1) i bought a 3 group LM GB/5 used, cause it was a good deal and in good condition. my initial plan was to buy a new 2-group linea and PID mod it, but the used GB/5 was cheape…

Brady, thank you for the response. You made a great point about the opening week needing the higher capacity. I would imagine the opening week, as a first impression, would be critical in putting a shop's best step (and product) forward to encourag…

I believe your conclusion is correct. If your growth and profitability curves match most cases that I'm aware of, you'll be less able to afford equipment after 1 year than you are before you open. Buy good quality equipment at the start that will me…
